Can webinars, conferences and events be CPD accredited?

Published 2 October 2026 · 5 min read

Webinars, conferences and events are some of the most popular forms of CPD and some of the hardest to accredit well, because the default way of evidencing them — “they were there” — doesn't show that anyone learned anything. They can absolutely be accredited. Here's what it takes.

The short version: AssuredCPD accredits live and recorded webinars, and conferences and events either as a whole or as individual sessions. In every case we assess the learning design and the check on understanding, not just attendance, and CPD hours are allocated to what learners actually complete.

Webinars

Our What we accredit page describes webinars as “live or recorded online sessions delivered to a remote audience,” and is clear about the standard: “We assess the learning design and the check on understanding, not just attendance.” A recorded webinar on demand can be accredited in the same way as a live one, as long as it has learning outcomes and a way of evidencing them.

Conferences and events

For multi-session events, keynotes and breakout programmes: “We can accredit the event as a whole or individual sessions, with CPD hours allocated to what learners actually complete.” That last part matters. A delegate who attends two sessions of a six-session day shouldn't receive a certificate for all six.

What makes an event accreditable

  1. Outcomes for each session. Every session needs its own short set of demonstrable outcomes — not just a title and a speaker bio.
  2. A check on understanding. Under domain D4 of the Standards Framework, attendance isn't assessment. A short post-session quiz, a structured poll with a pass condition, or a brief reflective task can all work — see how to design an assessment.
  3. A way to record completion. To allocate hours to what each learner actually completed, you need records of which sessions each delegate attended and passed.
  4. Proportionate CPD hours. Hours follow genuine learning time, not the length of the event including breaks and networking — see CPD hours explained.

What to send for an event or webinar

The same six items as any application, adapted: the programme with session durations, outcomes per session, slides or a recording for a representative session, your check on understanding and pass condition, your hours calculation, and how future editions will be kept current.

FAQ

Can a webinar be CPD accredited?

Yes. AssuredCPD accredits live and recorded webinars. It assesses the learning design and the check on understanding, not just attendance, so an accredited webinar needs learning outcomes and a way of evidencing them.

Can a conference be CPD accredited?

Yes. AssuredCPD can accredit a conference or event as a whole or individual sessions, with CPD hours allocated to what learners actually complete.

How are CPD hours calculated for an event?

CPD hours follow genuine learning time in the sessions a delegate actually completes, not the full length of the event including breaks and networking.
